The Privilege Was All Mine

One day last week, I received an order to pickup a named female at a specific address and take her to the airport. When I called her to touch base I could hear in her voice that she was under stress. She instructed me to pick her up on a specific corner & cross street. When ever that takes place it is always a red flag to some degree. Either way, it raises our senses.

I arrived at the corner and seen no one. I looked down the street as I pulled up and seen a female standing 2 blocks down. I went to that location and sure enough it was my customer.

She picked up her bags and we placed them in the trunk.  I could see in her eyes that she was tired and stressed…..sad mostly. As she got into my car the rest unfolded.

She had come to Florida to start anew.  Bottomline, it did not work out and the situation was far from pleasant.

As we drove she began to cry…to sob. I felt bad for her as I could relate to her feelings as I have been there too many times in the past myself.

Sooooo, I exchanged my horror stories with her and let her know that it happens to men too.

:-))!

I assured her she will find the “one” she is looking for as I did…and if I did, she sure will.  She just has to pray for it and be extremely specific in what she desires.

During the rest of our ride to the airport we laughed and laughed…we laughed hard and over and over again.  She laughed at the pleasure of hearing the misery of my past….I laughed just as hard along with her.

I could now see in my rear view mirror that she was laughing so much she was crying from that!  LOLOL

When we got to the airport, she thanked me for the ride…..told me she could not believe how calm she now was, because of how bad she felt while waiting for me to pick her up…….calm, she was now calm…..she then thanked me again and gave me a hug…….yep…..gave me a hug……….

So evidently she had an awesome ride………and so did I.…….

The Privilege Was All Mine!

Jesus once again protecting and directing. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of an awesome day.

A Pizza Review……Yep……Pizza! Mario’s Pizza Bar – Clearwater

OK so I will make this brief and simple

I love love love pizza.

I pass by this fairly new place in Clearwater at 12924 49th St North all the time and never stop. Recently I decided to give them a try.  Well I have now gone there 4 times and will continue.

I do not receive anything from or for doing this review…I just really like the place.

They have the pizza set up as in the photo here and serve slices, my wife and I like that because then we can try a few different varieties.  It is great!  The last time we had one of their egg plant slices (so yummy) better then I even could have imagined.  I thought egg plant would have been horrible and we loved it!  We also had a cheese slice and a “Chicago” slice……my wife and I were both like kids sitting at our table going to town on the pizza, she couldn’t believe that she liked the red sauce on the Chicago so much!

Nothing ever lasts in this location, but I sincerely believe and want this place to stay.

Mario’s Pizza Bar has the most awesome pizza I have had anywhere, including in Chicago and or my hometown in Minnesota.  They have different pizza than your average shop.  They make their own sauce every morning with fresh plum tomatoes. My wife, who is not a red sauce lover…..really likes their “Chicago” pizza. It is unbelievable!

For those of you who partake, Mario’s also has a full bar and outdoor seating.

Because I am usually on a hurry when I go there I always have gotten my pizza to go except once, on my first time there.  I really like this place because the service is also great and the restaurant/bar is clean and fresh.

It’s a nice, comfortable place.

Please patronize Mario’s…you will love the Pizza!

They tell me they also have excellent lasagna.

Tonight, we had….a cheese slice, a spinach & ricotta slice and the meatball slice…..all yummy!

Bon Appetit!

A Simple bag of Chips…..Lots of Laughs!

Once again, this last Friday was full of laughter…….all because of a simple bag of Lays Classic Potato Chips.

It was simply awesome. Another reason and one of the main reasons I LOVE what I do.

20150117_1613261.jpg

The basket pictured here is full of snacks, chocolates …….and Lays Chips for my customers to enjoy. One of the reasons I do this is because of the reactions I get from the customers when they see it.  It is simply so much fun.  Another reason is because it gives my customers a small snack to take with them on a plane if they want to, They are there for anyone.  No matter how much the fare is, no matter if they tip me or not.  It is more about the experience and the fun for all of us.  :-))!

Typically, I will encourage my customer to take a snack…..so that the person or persons around them will be jealous on the plane!  Hehehehe :)

This last Friday, one of those moments came to light as one of my favorite customers shared her story with me of her bag of chips on the plane.  She could not wait to tell me and I could not wait to hear it once she had stated she had a story for me. I was already chuckling as she said that because I could just imagine. :)

Two weeks prior, I had taken her to the airport, dropped her off and I suggested she take something for the flight as I always do…..she said….”ya know Lance….I think I will take a bag of chips.”  I said….yeah and rustle the bag a bit and eat each one slowly!  She thought that was a great idea and we got a little chuckle out of it and off she went. I wasn’t sure she would, just thought she would eat them and that would be that.

Now, Friday, I pick her up on her return flight into Tampa. We get in the car and we are not even out of the parking garage and she is bursting at the seems like that bag of chips to tell me her story.  That part alone was hilarious.  She is very funny anyway normally so this was even better :)….I was already laughing. I still am even as I write this.

The Story of Laughs!

Customer: So Lance, ya know those bag of chips?

Me: Yes……

Customer: Lance that bag of chips was so puffed up and huge like a pillow when I went to open them on the plane!  I rustled the bag a bit and people started looking.

Remember this Lays Commercial below, with the little girl?  This is basically how the story is…..and how I can see my customer …..ohhhh man I am laughing out loud as I write this,,,,lololol….I don’t know maybe you had to be there but man it was funny! Still is!

Lays Chips Commercial

Customer: Lance….that bag of chips being so puffed up…..POPPED!  It made a POP SOUND when I opened it!! (as she laughs)

Me: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……..AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…..doubled over LOLOL!

Customer:  And Lance……..the aroma of the chips coming out……people were looking….you could tell they were wondering where I got the bag of chips.  Oh and the flight attendants were not able to get out of their seats due to some turbulence, so they could not pass out snacks!! (as she laughs)

Me: OMG! …..AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA   AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA    AHAHAHAHAHA ( having a hard time breathing at this point! lolol)

Customer: So Lance….now I have the bag open and people are again looking…..wondering….smelling….(as she says with a smirk in her voice, which made me laugh even more!)

Me: DId you eat each one slowly??  (laughing as I asked)

Customer: Ohhhhh I did Lance……it must have taken me an hour to eat that little bag!

Me:  Out of control laughing at this point…….tears running out of my eyes!! I could just see her doing it….making each customers mouth water for something salty. lolololol…..Can you see the little girl in that commercial???  Ohhhh mannnn I sure could and I loved it!

Customer: And then after i was done I continued to fold the bag over and over making a slight crinkling sound……(as she laughs)

Me:  More and more….continued laughs……huge laughs!

Customer:  Lance, who would know that a simple little bag of chips would provide so much entertainment.

So, as I drove on, we talked more about it on the way back to her home, we both were talking about that very point that she made.  That simple bag of chips provided her a snack, (one of her favorites) and provided her a really strong inside chuckle to herself while on a business flight.  It also provided her and I additional entertainment….HUGE entertainment as I drove her home. I cannot tell you how priceless that is and was.  My “job” is driving an Executive Car Service Town Car…..I do it because I love it. I do it because of customers like this one.

All the snacks and beverages in my car I provide personally and pay for at no charge to the customer.  Can I put a price on that bag of chips??  Absolutely Not!

A simple bag of chips.  Priceless.

Thank you Mrs. “C”! Thank you for sharing that story with me!

You made my month!!  Probably longer!  lolol!

I will tell this story for a long long time.

Thank you for being such an awesome person and customer!

Providing Directions To Your Hired Driver…

As a driver, although we drive all over Gods Little Green Acres each day, it is difficult to know every street, nook and cranny everywhere…..however we know many many of them. Sure, we have and use GPS, but personally I do not care for using GPS all the time.  I prefer to pull up a Google map and memorize where I need to go since I basically know the area anyway.

The key is, your driver most likely knows all the main roads to get very close to your actual destination, but maybe we might just need your help once in a while getting down the little side streets that jog here and there through a neighborhood. Directions at this point are appreciated and can be very helpful as gps can be distracting I feel, although I do use it if needed.

My point here is this, a suggestion to you is to please keep your directions to a minimum and limited to primarily when your driver is close to your destination.  Please do not give him/her turn by turn directions, simply provide to the driver where they need to end up.  There are reasons for this, mostly is that the professional driver is thinking about more things than just the physical address and we are thinking about different things than when you personally drive yourself to the same location, whether it is your home or business.

What the driver thinks about:

So you have hired a driver to take you somewhere and make sure you get there easily, comfortably, safe and in style.  However, you feel compelled to provide directions even if the driver does not ask.  This is normal.

Here is the problem……

When you the customer provide directions you give them based on how you drive to the location and what you do on your way there. Professional drivers think about numerous other things and take routes based on a number of factors. Maybe you take a certain road because you stop at your favorite store, dry cleaners or coffee shop and do other errands on the way when needed.  If you/we stop along the way, you will enter the shopping area for example from a certain direction because it is simply the way you like to go.  Once you get there you park.  That is the difference….you park.  We do not.

Example: Shopping Center: You need to stop on the way to pick up some supplies for a meeting at the office which we will end up at.  You know the shopping center and you go a specific way all the time because it works for you. BUT, when you get there….again…..you park.  The thing is, the driver knows the shopping center location also and he/she starts their planning much before they get there.  We will most likely take a different street to get there….why?  Because we need to make sure we end up entering what ever location it is on the correct side.  Correct side you ask?  Yes.  The professional driver wants to make sure they enter on the side that has you closest to the curb when exiting the car for your safety. We do not want you to have to cross the parking lot or a lane where other vehicles are coming through.  In addition, we may go around the block instead of taking a direct street because we do not want to have to cut across traffic. It is much more efficient and safer to go around the block and come in on the proper side making all right turns.  This is also something UPS found helped safety and fuel efficiency.

Specific Roads: This may be repetitive, but again, the professional driver most likely takes a different route than you do or may be used to.  The reason is we drive the roads every day all day long.  The professional driver knows where the accidents have been that day, where the snarls have been etc and will take a different route to avoid any “possible” safety or time issues.  Many drivers will take a certain route because it suits the way we drive and also because it will possibly give you a more comfortable ride with less stop lights. We strive to go the routes with less stop and go.

Bottom line?  We appreciate the directions when we are close to an unfamiliar destination, as we cannot know all of them and we see so many.  However, we are concerned with many other things along the way and once we arrive that you may not be, so please leave the nitty gritty up to the driver.  If the driver states that they usually go a certain way, please do not say that it is much easier your way….because most likely for the driver it is not easier and not safer for you or the driver.

Bottom line?  It is the safety we are after.

Comfort and style happens when you arrive safe.

Thank you!

Thoughts & Feelings on UBER & LYFT

:-))!

Hello, and thank you for stopping by to read my blog.  This is my first blog on this website.  I have done extensive blogging on other websites I own in the past and hope I can make a little difference here also.

***DISCLAIMER*** The opinions, thoughts, statements and feelings that I post on these blogs are mine (Lance Greene) and mine only. In no way, shape or form do they reflect the opinions or feelings of Bat’s Taxi & Town Car Service of St. Pete Beach, FL.

My Thoughts and Feelings on Uber & Lyft

This is a sensitive subject for many. It is pretty simple for me.

Positive competitive competition is good, negative harmful competition is bad.

Positive competition makes everyone else step up their game a bit and work harder.  Nothing wrong with that.

It does not bother me at all that UBER & LYFT are around or trying to do business. I think it is a great concept and welcome it. Why? Because they both have a very specific clientele.  I am not after their clientele and do not desire to attract their clientele. I welcome it and also hope they step up and play by the rules or at least some of them.

My main concern is, I believe all companies, drivers and vehicles for hire that transport people should have to go through the same Level 2 Background checks and vehicle inspections that we have to pay for and go through here in Hillsborough County and also the Police Background check that we have to go through and pay for with the St. Petersburg, FL. Police Department.

Just like any other business, when there is something new out there our current clients may go and try it out of curiosity. That is just business and the nature of people and that is perfectly alright.  I have always found, once they try the “new thing” they will typically come back.

The “UBER APP” for smart devices is quite the app, it is impressive.  Cannot deny that.  It is obvious by all the other transportation companies trying to come up with and implement something like it.

Worth of over $40 Billion??  Why does any transportation company need to be worth THAT much?  Seems weird to me.

In the beginning it seemed drivers were making great money ($$$).  Now I am hearing quite the opposite. If drivers are not able to make decent money then they will not be able to maintain themselves (hygiene) or their vehicles properly (which they own). That is a simple fact.

You the customer might think you are getting a great deal/price for your ride………and you absolutely are.  The thing is, depending on where you are, your driver may be starving.

That, is not cool……….Not Ever.

I subscribe to the “Coffeehouse” mentality……..everyone should share in the business and feel comfortable referring around.  Spread the wealth so to speak.

I have been shown what the rates are from the Tampa International Airport to St. Pete Beach, FL for UBER and I am telling you customers that those drivers are NOT making any money on those runs. THAT once again is NOT cool. Not now, not ever.  Please keep in mind, the UBER & LYFT drivers are using their own personal cars and have to maintain and service everything about that car.  In addition, ALL of us drivers typically pay for all the gasoline, car washes and roadway tolls.

So, please, next time you hire a vehicle to take you somewhere, please keep all this in mind. It is important, very important.

Bottom line, if the drivers are Level 2 background checked and vehicles inspected……..

Have at it UBER & LYFT!

I welcome your competition.

Things To Know When Hiring Airport Transportation in Tampa

Welcome To Florida!

When Hiring a Town Car at an airport it is always good and important to know a few things before doing so, in order to help you, your fellow passengers and your driver all have a great experience.

Personally, as a professional driver, this is what I need to know in order to ensure a smooth experience for you.

Scheduling

****PLEASE NOTE: From Pinellas County you may take a Taxi or Town Car Service TO the Airport. HOWEVER, Pinellas Taxi’s are not allowed to pick up at the Tampa International Airport, so you MUST order a Town Car for your ride into Pinellas and it is actually very cost effective. Less expensive than taking a Tampa taxi from the Airport to Pinellas typically.  Example: Our current rate at Bat’s Taxi & Town Car, to or from TPA to St. Pete Beach or Clearwater Beach in one of our Town Cars is $65.00.  Fare to TPA in one of our Taxi’s is $54.00 from St. Pete Beach to TPA for example.

1) Cell Phone Number: Your Cell phone number is preferred or the cell phone number of the person we are picking up.  This is very important as airports can be confusing to some and it enables us to reach you easily. Please turn your cell phone on as soon as you land.  Personally, I prefer to have you see the sign I am carrying with your name on it rather than calling and disturbing you as you are trying to exit the plane. I will however call you if it has been over 20 minutes and you have not found me yet.  IF, you or the person(s) we are picking up do not have a cell phone please make sure you describe to us what they look like (hair color) and if you can what they will be wearing, primarily what colors. Believe me, it makes a huge difference in time.

2) Flight Information: This is extremely important as we receive the incorrect flight information all the time and it ends up creating a huge opportunity for error in picking you up.  ***When you are ordering your car and driver, whether you do so via phone or the internet, please read and input the flight information directly from your ticket or airline confirmation/Itinerary and supply us with the following: 1) The Flight number  2) City you will be departing from…please provide the city which you will be flying from…in other words, if you flew to another city before going onto your final destination, please provide that most recent city as your “departure from city”.   3) Arrival time

3) Passengers and Luggage etc etc etc:  Please advise us how many passengers there will be.  IF, you or they do not have a cell phone please make sure you describe to us what they look like and if you can what they will be wearing, primarily what colors.  Will there be children? Their ages? Please keep in mind there are new car seat rules for children in 2015.  FLORIDA CAR SEAT RULES  Will you have car seats for your children? Will you need one?  Will you have a stroller? How many and how big?  Will there be anyone in a wheelchair? Will you have a wheelchair with you? How many pieces of luggage will you have including checked and carry-ons?  Are any of them oversized?

4) Meeting Your Driver: Most of us professional drivers will be holding a printed sign or an electronic tablet with your name on it and we will meet you typically at the baggage claim level on the side that your airline lets out on…either red side or blue side. IF you DO NOT have any checked luggage, I personally believe it is best to meet you on level 3 where you come off the trams.  That way, we go directly to the elevator and up to the car in the parking garage. Saves us all an extra step and time. Bottom line?  I want to meet you where is best for you and where YOU want to be met. Simply let me know your preference.

Tampa Airport Baggage Claim Area: There is a Red Side (pictured below) and a Blue Side which you can tell by the color of the elevator banks. This depends on what airline you are on.

Red Side Baggage Claim at Tampa International Airport

Tampa Airport 3rd Level Terminal Side Greeting Area:  There are 2 areas like this on this level. All depends on the gate you are coming from.

3rd level greeting and waiting area with Red Side Elevators…the Blue Elevators would be at your back in this photo.
3rd Level Terminal Side and Greeting Area

5) Curbside Pick Up:  We can also pick you up at the curb outside of your airline at the baggage claim if you prefer.  However, many times due to traffic, this can take much longer then going up with me to the parking garage.

Tampa Airport Curbside: There are again, TWO sides to the airport, RED & BLUE each have a separate curbside location at the baggage claim level.  They get pretty congested “In Season” so I do prefer the parking garage for pick ups.  That means I will meet and greet you inside the airport.

Curbside – It gets pretty congested

6) Time:  Once you deplane, please make your way to us as soon as possible. We understand you may need to stop and use the restroom or grab a quick coffee to go however. Please keep in mind we are most likely parked in the parking garage and we receive only a half hour free parking. By the time you come down to us under “normal” circumstances we have been there already 15-30 minutes.  After the the free hour we then will pay a minimum of $4.00 for the parking.  Please, we greatly appreciate you keeping this in mind.

7) Tipping Your Driver:  Please tip your drivers.  We depend on our tips and we appreciate them greatly! You may not realize it, but most Town Car and or Taxi drivers pay for all parking, road tollways, gasoline, car washes, and any extras they carry in the car for you.

I look forward to taking care of your transportation needs.  If you have any questions about anything here please email, text or call me and I will be glad to answer your questions.

Thank You for stopping by!
